Top 50 things to do and attractions in Sparks (2024)

The Nugget Casino Resort is located in Sparks and has over 900 slot machines, an on-site hotel, a full-service spa, and two high-rise towers. The casino is praised for its large selection of slot machines and its relaxed atmosphere.

The room was quite clean and the staff helpful and polite. A great experience. We got a very spacious room with a very comfortable king bed. After a very long and taxing 8+ hour drive across the state its very refreshing to have such a beautiful and comfortable place to rest at night. A blessing for sure. Best hotel I've gone to this trip and it's my third one! Definitely will recommend.

Good is the best word for this casino hotel. Doesn't surpass any expectations though. Rooms are mostly clean but I wonder how frequently they vacuum because there was candy on the floor and also some mysterious looking dried liquid. The room did smell strongly of cigarettes, but it is a casino. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would skip eating at Rosie's but the chophouse was fantastic.

To no fault of the employees, they are working 2x harder with less staff in all areas. We got a deal on the newly remodeled King Suit. The tub jets are a nice touch but the depth of the tub is what I want min to be. The key card to use the elevator was just a matter of time, however, a system in place for deliveries would be more efficient. ( in my opinion) no room service 😪🫤.The room was nice, spacious, and accommodating but weird. I have a thing for unused spaces. It's like it might not be fully completed on the remodel.Won money so that was cool.We are locals, the Nugget is historic to the area. Alot of the changes are well needed and look great .

Overall, good enough. You get what you pay for. I stayed in the older building and I'll say the room was clean enough. The air conditioner was not sealed from the outside properly so when it's windy you will hear air coming in. The shower was small. The toilet could have been more clean. Key cards sometimes didn't work.Hotel staff was kind. The other hotel building seems abandoned but it is newer. You will find yourself going to the other amenities of the other hotels of the ROW.

The Nugget is very fast to check you in, Rooms are big size but shower always smells like urine, might be the shower curtains. They need more drink servers I sit for almost a whole hr with nobody offering drinks and if you ask sometimes they tell you they are busy or it's not there area, it's kind of dissapointing. Pool is Great , Restaurant Service has Really improved since Last Year.

A great property that offers it all. Long or short stays, I think it gives everyone a well rounded experience. The gym and pool are amazing! Casino has what you'd expect from a larger venue. Lots of selections. The rooms have been renovated amd are very spacious. Hallways are clean and everything seems very organized

Highly recommend! Our rooms were large, clean, housekeeping was attentive and cheerful!Had a blast at the black jack tables! Everyone so friendly. We had a wonderful breakfast at Rosie's Cafe. The portions were large and everything was delicious! The gals that were working the gift shop were so much fun. We had a joke that we couldn't find a K and they just made us laugh and laugh! We were there for the Best in the West Rib Fest and the Nugget is the perfect place to stay!

Do not recommend staying here. If they had negative stars, they would have gotten that from us. They charged us an additional $100 cleaning deposit - on top of the actual hotel cost. No hotel, even more expensive ones down there ever charged us that. Unreal. Got into the room to find the temp set at 95 degrees, the room stunk, mold in the shower, and the glass on the chandelier was in a bunch of pieces, and several other things wrong with the room. The food and service was bad and very expensive. When they vacuum they don't have bags so the dirt flies all over. Had to cover my face and leave the area for a while. The entire building was being fed a perfume to cover the other smells. When I went over the room issues and the vacuum problems, the person at the Front Counter never said a word. I cannot believe the treatment from an establishment like this. Will never come back.

I was making a booking, and the agent took a long time over the phone. The room was supposed to be comped, he took my credit card information, all my personal information and then at the very end when we’re ready to confirm the room, he switched out the code and told me instead of being a free room it would be, regular rate. I asked to change to the original code and he transferred me to a supervisor which got disconnected. A supervisor called me back after several calls/days. His name was Cole and he was reiterating what his manager Michelle told him after listening to the call. She said sorry the first agent made a mistake and the room was regular rate. Very frustrating. Michel was supposed to talk to me afterwards but she never did. I left several messages for her and she never returned one of my calls. Horrible customer service, looks like the casino has new owners. Too bad because I really like this place, but I can’t feel comfortable gambling in a place that doesn’t honor the pricing given by agents and has such terrible customer service. Michelle should not be a manager at this casino

Went to BBQ cook off. Did a 4 random BBQ test. We rateed and judged. We liked the Aussie BBQ out of the 4 we tested. Great taste with out sauce. Great with the BBQ sauce. I bought seasoning pack. I'm upset I waited too long and couldn't buy the blue flame hot sauce.

Love the old vibe and feel of this casino. The kids arcade facility could use a little upgrading and maybe a few more restaurant choices other than the Island Grill and Rosie's which both have fantastic food/meal selection and drinks to choose from. There's tons of space above where they usually hold concerts and large gatherings. It would be nice to see some more vendors or shops in that area to better utilize the space. The hotel rooms are very spacious and clean and some.of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. The location is perfect and parking is easy and plenty.

I got a deal on the room even though it was last minute. My room was in the resort tower. Very clean lots of space they have a good selection of slot machines. I should have quit when i was ahead. $20 got me a win then a few more decent wins. The waitress on the floor was super nice and I’m glad i went to the slots. I only came for a room. Had some fun while I was there. The room was very clean

Everything about this trip to this hotel casino was perfect except for two issues. The first was when the person who cleans and maintains the rooms did ours, after our first night stay, they failed to restock the coffee. So we called housekeeping and asked for some more to be sent to our room. After about a half an hour, with nothing arriving, We searched out the housekeeper down the hall and had to get some from her. Second, on our first night there, we were out enjoying the casino and drinks. We were playing video poker at one of the bars and around 12:30 a.m. or so, The bar just closed. No more bartenders. No more drink service with no warning. So we decided to go play some machines out on the floor , hoping that a beverage server would come our way and take our order. Well after about a half an hour , one finally came out and took our order. But we never saw her again. So we decided to go to the horseshoe bar and play some video poker and order a drink or two. We sat there for a good half hour or so, went through a good $100 while the bartender walked back and fourth, chatting with the beverage servers. Joking around and laughing but never once asking if we wanted anything to drink. By this time. It was about 1:30. So, frustrated and angry. We decided to just go to our room and call it a night. We may have gambled another hour or two but with lousy drink service we just decided that was it for the night. I would think that if a bartender saw someone sitting at his bar playing a machine and wanting a drink they would take 30 seconds to ask and serve. But that bartender got no tip for me and the casino didn't get any more money from me from the slots. The next day was super bowl Sunday and we went to their super bowl event and had a great time. Love the food and the drink and the experience, but the night before had a lot to be desired.

Awful experience. Where to start? Doubled the price of the room since it was too late to gamble, and refused to negotiate after. Then the first room had not been cleaned. Called the front desk and got attitude. One pillow per person, had to ask three times for pillows and again got an attitude from staff. Then you get to the room itself, dated and in need of improvements - like the faucet to the sink only giving scalding hot water (handles noticeably awry) or the bathtub drain plugged. Beds were fine, until being woken up by housekeeping letting themselves right in the room before 9 o’clock hardly announced - who also had an attitude about it? We would’ve stayed anywhere else if there was vacancy - I hope you can find somewhere else. Don’t waste your money.

I enjoyed my stay at the Nugget casino resort. I've seen major improvements for this property since I last visited 2 years ago. All rooms are beautifully remodeled. Customer service has improved. I loved the pool area. Great dining options. I even won money from the slots. I'd definitely come stay at the Nugget casino hotel again.

Kind of a dated feel which is great if your the type that waxes nostalgic for 1983 but I will say they are really mellow there and they are cool with pets and basically if you don't bug them they won't bug you which is a very good thing to know depending on how legal you are in your endeavors. Suffice it to say it has a family feeling and is a safe place to go if you want to do a little Reno type stuff but have the wife and kids along as well. I stay here and you wouldn't be disappointed if you did also. One last thing the rooms here are always of a good price and available and comps for lodging are the rule not the exception.

If your looking to view a showing of your favorite rock or country star, and they happen to be performing at the "Showroom" then that's the venue where you want to be. It's small, but not stifling and your not rubbing elbows. As for after the show? Drinks are great, but don't give away to many bigheads as the machines from my experience are a little tight.Enjoy your visit.

I had to stay here for my daughter's volleyball tournament. It is a requirement that the team stay in certain hotels. This is the second year I have been stuck here and I vow it will be my last. The place is old, that happens, but there are things they can do to combat this, but they don't. It is beyond dirty, including the rooms. I always check the beds for bedbugs, no signs, but I made the mistake of not removing the sheets that encompassed the bedspread. When we woke up our first morning, I discovered the bedspread on my daughter's bed had a brown substance smeared all over the top of it. It was not an old stain, it was fresh because it was textured. It appeared to be feces. There was also a spray stain of yellow. I immediately called housekeeping and was assured the bedding would be replaced and it was. After returning from the tournament, I asked to speak with a manager. I was questioned why I wanted to speak with a manager. When the manager finally emerged, I explained what had happened. No apology, no effort to make amends. She said, "I will let housekeeping know." That was it. I felt as though I was treated like I made it up. I guess it was my mistake for not checking the beds more thoroughly upon arrival and not taking pictures. The whole thing was disgusting and disturbing and no one at this "resort" seemed to care.

The AC WAS ABYSMAL. My room with the AC set at 60 degrees would not cool beyond the upper 70's the meeting rooms were sweat boxes. The elevators were scary. Dropping sometimes multiple floors. The main restaurant mediocre at best, though I never had a chance to try the steak house, the oyster bar was good.I understand there is new management and changes are being made, but presently, not at all my first choice

I believe the nugget is a sparks staple. It's about a 10 minute drive from downtown Reno which is super nice.I stayed in the casino tower and the rooms are definitely dated. The room does come with a Bluetooth alarm clock radio. The TV is not a smart TV as you cannot stream from your phone. In our room the vent for the heater was not attached to the wall, it was just leaning. The toilets are low to the floor. The lighting is something to be desired. The room did have a wet bar which was nice. The water pressure in the shower, great.I ate at the oyster bar and Rosie's Cafe. Both are nothing to write home about. The food is comparable to that if Denny's. But if you're hungry, it's a place to eat.The player services area is also the cashier. I don't drink but if I did I wouldn't have gotten drunk as the co*cktail service was lacking. But that was at every casino I went to.I was here for the rib cook off. The hotel provided two complementary tickets to the rib village. Parking was a breeze because I was staying at the hotel.Overall, I would return to the nugget as I know what to expect. The Reno/ Sparks area is always a nice quick getaway and I'm thankful for places like the nugget that has affordable rates.

The staff was AMAZING! Everyone we encountered was knowledgeable courtesy and quick to help. I Thank you ALL for a memorable experience. Now, the sad part. Pillows were awful and need replacing. And what is with the shallow toilet in the restroom. Not a great experience. All I can say is it's time to upgrade the room experience all together and especially for the charge of the room.I do hope you use the extra profit you are making to pay the great staff...They deserve it by far. Especially if no upgrades will be made or I will go else where.Nugget Staff you are awesome!

Me N — Google review

Very convenient location for this well-appointed, relatively recent renovation, so the rooms were nice. The pool was ideal, very functional, and enjoyable for families, too. There was not a lot going on, so we didn't use any services to rate. We'd definitely stay there again.

For a little stay-cation for 2 nights in a suite you can't beat the price. The room was large, spa jetted tub and comfy bed. The staff was nice in each interaction and the gift shop had a great variety of items. If you haven't been to the Nugget lately, go! They have made so many changes and upgrades

When I checked in the girl wasn’t very helpful as far as letting me know how much I would be charged, due to me booking through a third party, which I understood. The receipt that she gave me made no scenes and she could not tell me anything about it. I go up to my room and called down to front desk and asked for extra pillow? Whoever answered told me that they didn’t know if they had any extra pillows and never go back to me and I never got the extra pillows. The room was fairly clean, I was unhappy with bathroom and there was dust in certain. The beds were firm and comfy, just needed an extra pillow or two. The sheets pillow cases did have some staining on them but I could tell they have been washed. The floor was dirty. I didn’t want to be I. The floor barefoot. Over all 3/5. As far as I know it was adorable and comfy. Kinda ghetto but what can you expect in Reno. If I ever find myself in Reno again I would stay here again, if I couldn’t afford somewhere else.

Sarah T — Google review

The retro feel combined with the comfort of our room made this vacation relaxing and also fun. The halls and decor in the lobby are out of a 70s movie, but the room was perfectly updated . Did I mention the jacuzzi tub in the petite king room? Absolute heaven! 💯

James D — Google review

I mean my visit was fine. It wasn’t what I would expected though. After parking in the parking garage and ridding up an elevator that had tiles that had fallen down and beautiful words scratched into the doors, I got off on the floor where the children’s arcade is. After taking in the smell of cigarette smoke, I got onto another elevator to get to my room. My room faced the interstate so hearing cars 15 floors down was a nice experience. To add to the ambience was my room television wasn’t level and slopped down to the right. Also, the rust on the bathroom light fixture was a nice touch.I also stayed two nights and after a long day out, I was surprised to return to my room to find room hasn’t been cleaned. Now, I may have too high of an expectation visiting a hotel, but no room cleaning? No beds made, no new towels?

Russell N — Google review

This place is just old. It might be better off to just gut the casino floor and renovate the entire area. The Oyster Bar needs to be completely gutted and redone and the removal of the bar that used to be across from the theater entrance just doesn't make sense. I get it that some want to live in the past and would be happy with the Awful Awful making a return but The Nugget needs to move into the 21st century and modernize its look and feel.

Matt J — Google review

One of my favorite places.Good large open parking for oversized vehicles and RV,etc, even though in city area.Very Close to Reno but still little out by itself. One of the best high rise hotels with the best views you can get for great price for weekday stays.Large casino if you wish to gamble, but when there I just enjoy the large very clean hotel rm with spectacular views.Everything is spotless.Does have refrigerator no microwave but most casino motels don't.Large bathroom with good water pressure and hot water, etc. The staff are always friendly, professionals and go out of their way to accommodate your requests if they can.All in all very very high recommendation. And if looking for casinos where I've been at 99 percent of them in the country, and I am a picky reviewer,I highly suggest this one.

We were there for the 4th. It was amazing! The fireworks show from the top of both towers was genius. The gaming floor was clean, plenty of staff around to help with anything you needed. This is quite possibly my number 1 spot to stay when I visit Nevada.

Tiffani E — Google review

The room was nice, but had not been vacuumed prior to our arrival, and was not vacuumed while we were there. The bright side was the service and meal we enjoyed at Anthony's Chop House. My wife's Duck and my Bison New York Steak were both prepared superbly. Kamel went above and beyond, helping us choose the entree's and sides to please both of us, as well as pairing the perfect wine. He was attentive without being intrusive. Definitely the highlight of our stay.

John C — Google review

I enjoy playing at the Nugget they have a lot of machines but unfortunately their service needs a lot of work . I was there for 2 hours playing and not once did a co*cktail waitress come by or a change person. I had to put my machine service light on and wait another 30 minutes before someone came. I explained we had been waiting for a while, could we please get some service. An hour later we wound up leaving without ever getting service. Nice place to play but if your thirsty forget it

Annett — Google review

The rooms are ok for its price. It needs a big remodel. Customer service at the reception desk and cashier could be better. Dealers are friendly most of the time. The bartenders should smile more often. Valet is excellent. Food is great. The Pad Thai at the Island grill is my fave! Location is great! A few great bars that are walking distance.

Julius — Google review

Traveling cross country on the freeway you can easily spot this hotel. I was due to stop, so I pulled up and the guys in valet parking were great! I was a walk-in, and was pleasantly surprised at the low rates they offered. The room was huge, the king bed really comfortable, quiet and with an awesome view! I did not take advantage of all the amenities, but there is nothing they did not offer. I have to highlight a groundskeeper by the name of Jacob. Looking around the property you could tell that he did a great job. Really nice guy who had a little bit of time to talk, and I like that. He wasn't running off to do something that couldn't wait. The staff are all excellent and I would not hesitate to stay here again. I recommend this hotel highly.

Michael M — Google review

The staff is fantastic Valets are awesome. The shuttle driver was amazing. The hotel make over is fantastic. The rooms are very nice, but the walls are thin. I had to get security to quiet down the noise in the next room. The baby just wouldn’t stop crying. And The only other thing that I would say is a draw back is the bathroom toilet. It’s out of date and the plumbing needs updating. You can hear people showing all through the night. No microwave in the room. I will definitely stay again!

Eric S — Google review

Stayed here on a work trip. My room in the resort was large and had all the necessities. The property was clean and service was good. I had dinner at the oyster bar one night. It was average.Overall it was a good experience. The automated check in was trouble free and quick.I will likely stay here the next time I'm down in Reno.

Kevin S — Google review

The check clerk was helpful. The room was comfortable but you can tell the Nugget is aging. Elevators on the tower are unpleasant to ride in and many of the buttons do not light up. The restaurant staff was nice. Price on room was good.

Gretchen W — Google review

It's "O.K." ... Used to be a lot better with rewards program, comps, and free play. Costs a lot of $ to play with no incentives worthwhile. Machines are usually super tight and no change person after midnight in a casino?? That's just poor service IMO. The restaurants are good but nothing special and the last visit to The Oyster Bar was disappointing compared to prior visits. It works for a night out that's close to home if you got the funds though.

Lisa N — Google review

I love the nugget. One of my go to place to go. Pools nice and open later than any other pool. Arcade is decent. Food is great. Machines are fun and pretty loose. And the rooms are pretty clean and good for how cheap they are.

Natasha D — Google review

The hotel and the rooms seem a little dated. There's a weird smell when you walk in. But everything was clean and the staff was very nice. The steakhouse downstairs was delicious and the staff was amazing. It's not in a very convenient location to walk to much of anything, but there was a nice view from the room.

Kristin P — Google review

Very nice place overall. Decor is right out of the 70s but it works here. The room doors do need to be checked to make sure they close securely, but they do have a sign on the door stating as much. Casino has all the good games and a bingo area. Will definitely come back.

Robert B — Google review

Closest place where we were staying that had bingo. Seems to attract an older crowd so, The Nugget is quieter than a Vegas casino. I enjoyed their bingo. Last play is at 6p and Friday and Saturday last play is 8p. They have a lot of regulars that the staff know by name. It's enjoyable and I would go back.

W T — Google review

Had some trouble with the AC call front desk they had some one up to the room within 5 min and the was all after 8 pm. great customer service, everyone is super kind, also self check in is super easy. They also have regular check in if u need help. It's super family friendly there, great pool and arcade.

Anisa L — Google review

Rooms were very cozy, but the main door slammed shut not a soft close and you could easily hear noise from the hallways. Some water damage on the ceiling but otherwise the room was in good condition. Staff at Cafe and Front Desk were nice and friendly. But phone didn't work in room to connect to the front desk or operator, just got some odd tone like an incomplete call. Had drinks at the horseshoe bar, our bartender was nice and friendly. Another bartender brought me the wrong drink and the main bartender quickly replaced it no issues. Starbucks was super expensive. Surprised the resort fee was as high as it was for the location, similar pricing to those on the Vegas Strip. Also daily valet charges was surprising too.
