Welcome to Wear Next’s trend report for spring summer 2024, where you’ll find only the most wearable trends for the season ahead. Spring is officially here, so it’s time to pack away your chunky knits, bobble hats and gloves and to get ready for the return of floral dresses, sandals and sunglasses. The clocks are set to change imminently, and next month the sun will set every day at 8pm. If that wasn’t excitement enough, get a load of the trends for SS24.
The new season is bringing with it a number of trends, but you’ll recognise many of them. The best trends are those you don’t think about wearing, those that feel naturally like you and those you can find already in your wardrobe. Fashion doesn’t need to cost thousands to enjoy. So while we could share some of the most elaborate and unusual trends for SS24 that naturally have the biggest impact, we’re sharing those that you can actually wear.
When it comes to colours, red isn’t going anywhere this season. It appeared time and time again on the runways, with pops of the colour appearing at Bottega Veneta, Fendi and Givenchy, as well as bold red outfits at Jacquemus and Burberry. Short shorts dominated at Fashion Week too, while there’s a certain floral print you’re going to be seeing a lot more of.

As Miranda Priestley can attest, florals for spring don’t exactly break boundaries – but that’s not a bad thing. If you’re ever stumped for what to wear, they serve as a welcome reminder that some trends never fade. For spring summer 2024, roses were a huge feature on the runways. At Balmain, they adorned vinyl coats and shoes in 3D shapes, while Simone Rocha sent real pink roses down the runway worn under sheer dresses.

Another wearable trend for SS24 is asymmetry. D&G, Van Noten and Fendi showcased a number of one-shoulder looks, whilst we saw asymmetric hemlines at Rabanne and Ferragamo.

Asymmetry is easy to shop on the high street. Pick a dress with a cold shoulder for ease or invest in an asymmetric skirt, of which there are hundreds to choose from right now. Keep the rest of the outfit simple and you’ll nail quiet luxury.

Summer leather

You wouldn’t naturally put leather and summer together, but that’s exactly that a number of designers did for SS24. Leather featured heavily on the runways in the form of co-ords, coats and everyone’s favourite staple, the biker jacket. If you’re reading this from the UK, you’ll know how temperamental our weather is. Invest in a faux or real leather co-ord and you won’t regret it.

Short shorts dominated the runways for SS24. Models flashed their pins at Prada, Gucci and Miu Miu, proving that hemlines are just getting shorter this year.

After reigning supreme for AW23, red isn’t going anywhere. The colour was spotted on countless runways, whether as a pop of colour at Bottega Veneta, Fendi and Givenchy, or a head-to-toe look at Jacquemus, Burberry and Acne. If you invested in it for winter, you’re laughing now.

At Wear Next, we want fashion to be accessible – and aside from florals, there are fewer prints that have lasted as long as polka dots. The pretty print was spotted at D&G and Carolina Herrera in the form of sweet dresses, while at Balmain it featured on one particularly stunning polka dot jumpsuit.

Another trend you can shop from your wardrobe? Yes please. Bright white was celebrated by nearly every designer for SS24, with models wearing ethereal white dresses at Chloé, Jil Sander and Courreges, and matching two-pieces at Loewe, Dior and Cecilie Bahnsen. Just be careful not to spill your morning coffee on your outfit.
