I don’tmention Slimming World much on our blog these days, but I was a member of thediet club back in the 90’s as a chubby teenager. They didn’t have onlineSlimming World recipes at the time, but one of the popular meals was chickenwrapped in bacon.

You had achicken breast, you covered it in your allowed amount of Philadelphia and thenwrapped it in lean back bacon. It was delicious. It was bigger than the airfryer chicken wrapped in bacon I am sharing with you today.

But itshows you that if you want it small like the little party pieces of air fryerchicken wrapped in bacon that I am making today, or you want to use full sizedchicken breasts, then both work well.

But best of all, compared to baking your chicken wrapped in bacon in the oven, the air fryer does an amazing job of crisping the bacon up for you instead.

Instructions

  • Chop up your chicken breasts into bite sized pieces. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.

  • Smother the chicken breasts in soft cheese and wrap each piece in bacon.

  • Cook in the air fryer for 8 minutes at 170c/340f, give it a shake and then cook for a further 5 minutes at 180c/360f.

  • Serve warm.

Notes

I recommend sourcing your chicken and bacon from Butcher Box. They do amazing monthly subscription boxes of quality sourced meat. Many of our readers have both organic chicken and natural bacon in their monthly box. Or read our Butcher Box Review.

It is important that the bacon covers the soft cheese, otherwise the cheese will go everywhere in the air fryer and you won’t have any cheese on your chicken.

I recommend shaking them after 8 minutes as it stops the bacon from sticking to the other chicken bites or to the bottom of the air fryer and makes sure that the bacon is crispy all over rather than on one side.

FAQs

Do you put foil in the air fryer when cooking bacon? ›

Place bacon in air fryer

If you're using an oven-style air fryer, you'll want to put the bacon on an air-fry basket (basically a mesh rack) with either a solid pan or a piece of aluminum foil folded up on the edges underneath to catch any bacon grease drippings.

How many pieces of chicken can you put in an air fryer? ›

You can cook as many chicken breasts at a time as will fit in the basket of your Air Fryer. You just don't want them overlapping.

How long to cook chicken breast wrapped in foil in air fryer? ›

For fresh chicken you've frozen yourself, after seasoning to taste, wrap in foil and place in your air fryer and set your timer for 30 minutes. Check at the 15-minute mark and flip if it needs to cook longer. Cook until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Why is my chicken tough in air fryer? ›

Overcooking:Overcooking is a common reason for tough chicken. If chicken is cooked for too long or at too high a temperature, the proteins in the meat can tighten and become dry, resulting in a tough texture. It's important to cook chicken to the recommended internal temperature and not exceed it.

Where does the grease go when you air fry bacon? ›

In just nine minutes, you can have hot bacon ready to serve. The best part about the air fryer is that the grease collects underneath the basket in the drawer, so there's no grease splatters in the kitchen and the grease is a cinch to discard (simply tip the drawer to pour off).

Should you put water in the bottom of an air fryer when cooking bacon? ›

Add 1 cup of water to the bottom of your air fryer basket. This will prevent the rendered bacon fat from smoking.

What is the best temperature to cook chicken in an air fryer? ›

After testing a variety of temperatures, I found that 375 degrees F is the best temperature for air frying chicken. Because the air fryer uses convection heat, you do not need to set it as high as you would an oven (in a regular oven, 425 degrees F is best for baking chicken, like Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast).

Can you put raw chicken in an air fryer? ›

You can directly cook chicken thighs in the air fryer without using any special recipe. To do so, preheat the air fryer up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, dry the thighs, rub them with olive oil and then with some seasoning of your choice, and put them in the air fryer basket.

Can you air fry raw chicken? ›

Place the chicken on the air fryer basket / grate in an even layer, leaving a bit of space for air to circulate around. Air fry the chicken at 415 degrees for 10 minutes. If you have larger pieces of chicken, you'll want to go closer to 13 minutes. You're looking for an internal temperature of 165 degrees.

Should I use aluminum foil when air frying chicken? ›

Bottom Line

Just remember that if it's safe and effective to use in a conventional oven, it will work just fine in an air fryer. The one thing to remember is not to cover the heating mechanism or fan with foil or any other material, as this can not only prevent the food from cooking but also damage your air fryer.

Can raw chicken be wrapped in foil? ›

Store fresh, uncooked chicken on a low shelf of the refrigerator so it does not drip onto other items. For convenience and to prevent freezer burn, wrap separate pieces in foil or plastic bags. Then place all wrapped or bagged pieces into a larger freezer bag or foil wrap.

Do you need to wrap chicken in foil for air fryer? ›

Not all air fryers allow you to use foil, so first check your manual before preparing your chicken. If it allows you to, feel free to use foil in your air fryer. This will also prevent it even more from getting dirty and having juice stick to it which will make it even more annoying to clean.

Should I oil chicken before air frying? ›

First, there is a health benefit to air frying over deep frying or pan frying. While I do recommend very lightly spraying the fried chicken with oil before and during air frying, you don't submerge the pieces entirely in oil, and as a result, they undoubtedly absorb less oil in the process.

How do you keep chicken from drying out in an air fryer? ›

The #1 tip for the best chicken breasts in an air fryer is: Don't overcook them! Chicken breasts should be cooked to 160°F, but if you cook them all the way to that temperature in the air fryer, carryover cooking will take them beyond that temp and cause them to dry out.

What is the best way to cook bacon in an air fryer? ›

Preheat an air fryer to 390 degrees F (200 degrees C) according to manufacturer's instructions. Lay bacon in the air fryer basket in a single layer; some overlap is okay. Fry for 8 minutes. Flip and continue cooking until bacon is crisp, about 7 minutes more.

Are you supposed to put aluminum foil in an air fryer? ›

Foil is safe to use in an air fryer so long as you follow three basic rules: never let foil touch the heating element; make sure the foil is weighted so it doesn't blow around the basket; and avoid contact with acidic ingredients, which can cause the foil to leach onto your food.

Do I need to put aluminum foil in air fryer? ›

Air fryers work by circulating hot air, which originates at the bottom of the fryer. Lining it with foil can constrict the air flow and your food won't cook properly. If you are going to use aluminum foil in an air fryer, use a small amount in the bottom of the basket, making sure not to cover the food.

Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer? ›

Air frying uses the rapid circulation of hot air to cook and crisp your food. While lining your air fryer with foil might seem like a convenient way to minimize cleanup, it's not recommended. Foil can disrupt the airflow within the appliance, preventing food from cooking evenly.
